What Phalangite Is
Phalangite is the evolved form of Pikeman — the endpoint Update 3 added to the game’s shortest documented evolution chain. The spear line now runs three steps:
| Step | Unit | Stars | Tier (launch table) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base | Spearman | 1★ | C |
| Evolution 1 | Pikeman | 2★ | C |
| Evolution 2 | Phalangite | 3★ (reported) | Not yet ranked |
Before Update 3 went live on October 3, 2026, the line ended at Pikeman — one station visit, C-tier payoff, an anti-cavalry pick rather than a power target. Phalangite extends that line to 3 stars and turns it into a full three-step project with a real endpoint.
How to Get Phalangite: The Spear Line
The chain starts at the cheapest anti-cavalry unit in the game:
- Hold a Spearman (1★). It has exactly one useful matchup — stopping cavalry charges — and exists to start this line.
- Level to 20 and evolve at an evolve station (the documented rule for launch lines, per player reports) → Pikeman (2★). Update 2 raised both Spearman and Pikeman squad sizes from 24 to 28 troops, so the line holds more battlefield space than it did at launch.
- Level to 20 and evolve again → Phalangite (3★, reported).
- Ascend in parallel. Duplicates feed ascension — two copies per level up to Ascension 3 — permanently strengthening the copy you keep.
The Lancer and Pikeman acquisition page covers the first two steps of this line, and the evolution guide documents all chains side by side.
“Phalanx” vs Phalangite: One Unit, Two Searches
Searches for the spear line’s new endpoint often use the word “phalanx” — the formation the historical phalangite fought in. In Command An Army there is no unit named Phalanx: Phalangite is the unit, it is the Pikeman evolution, and it is the only 3-star endpoint on the spear line. If you arrived here from a “how to get phalanx” search, the chain above is the answer.
What the Endpoint Is Worth
No dated third-party guide has ranked Phalangite, so it carries no tier verdict — the tier list table ends at the launch roster. The value case rests on what the line already does:
| The spear line’s job | Evidence on this site |
|---|---|
| Stop cavalry charges | Spearman’s one documented matchup; Pikeman keeps the role at 2★ |
| Control battlefield space | Update 2 squad size increase, 24 → 28 troops |
| Stay cheap | 1★ and 2★ starts; Phalangite reported at 3★ |
Whether the third step upgrades the line from “anti-cavalry pick” to “carry” is exactly what the missing tier verdict would answer — until one exists, treat Phalangite as the line’s endpoint, not its savior. The Morningstar endpoint on the Mace chain got the same kind of Update 3 upgrade, with the same sourcing caveats.
