FAQ

How many units are in Command An Army?
Twenty-five units are documented through Update 2, from 1-star starters such as Shieldman, Mercenary and Archer up to 4-star units such as Samurai, Lancer, Spartan, Immortal and Berserker, plus Rapier and Rapier Knight whose star costs are not published. Update 3 added more — the first 5-star Laestrygonian, a 4-star Myrmidon and three Battle Pass units per the October 2026 reports — and the Update 3 overview lists them.
What is the cheapest good unit in Command An Army?
Flame Archer at 3 stars is the best value in the game. It is an S-tier unit that costs a full star less than the 4-star roster, with arced shots and damage over time that make it the strongest ranged pick.
Which units can evolve in Command An Army?
Five evolution paths are currently documented: Mercenary to Squire to Knight, Shieldman to Sentinel to Imperial Wall, Spearman to Pikeman, Archer to Longbowman to Flame Archer, and Scout Rider to Cavalryman to Lancer. Most 3-star and 4-star banner units have no published evolution route.
How do you get Lancer in Command An Army?
The documented route is the cavalry evolution chain: Scout Rider at 2 stars evolves into Cavalryman at 3 stars, which evolves into the 4-star S-tier Lancer. The chain is the no-luck alternative to pulling Lancer from a banner.
How do you get Pikeman in Command An Army?
Pikeman is the evolution of the 1-star Spearman, and the October 2026 Update 3 report extends the line again with Pikeman evolving into the 3-star Phalangite. The spear line is the anti-cavalry core of most documented formations.
Do all units cost the same stars?
No. Costs run from 1 to 4 stars, and your Star Limit caps the combined value of your whole loadout. That is why a cheap starter on an evolution path is often a better hold than an expensive unit you cannot field.
Are the star ratings official?
The star costs come from dated third-party guides rather than official documentation. The official Roblox experience confirms troop recruitment and upgrades but does not publish a unit table, so treat every number here as a dated third-party value and confirm it in the live client.

The complete Command An Army unit roster

Twenty-five units are currently documented, ordered by star cost. Star cost matters more than tier letter on its own, because your Star Limit caps the combined value of everything you field and a loadout built around one unaffordable 4-star unit is weaker than a squad of cheaper units that actually fit.

Rapier ? — Parry line —
Rapier Knight ? — Parry line, flanking → three-star form (unconfirmed)

Rapier and Rapier Knight arrived with Update 2 on September 19, 2026. Their star costs are not published, which is why they carry a question mark rather than a guess — read the live unit panel before spending Gems on either.

Which units are worth building around?

Only four units reach S tier, and only two of those are agreed on by every dated guide.

Unit Stars Role Key strength
Samurai 4 Frontline Consistent sustained damage, counters shield stacking, survives ranged and melee
Lancer 4 Mounted charge Highest charge damage in the game, dominates open terrain
Flame Archer 3 Ranged Arced shots, damage over time on hit, most flexible ranged unit
Mace 3 Frontline Exceptional value against shield-heavy comps, balanced stats

Samurai and Lancer are the only units placed in S tier by all three dated guides checked. Flame Archer and Mace hold S in two of three. The best units by role page explains what each one is actually good at, and the unit tier list ranks all 25 with the source disagreement recorded.

How do evolution paths work?

Five paths are currently documented. The level requirement and the evolve station location come from player reports rather than official documentation, so confirm both in the live client.

Base unit Evolution path Endpoint
Mercenary (1★) Mercenary → Squire (2★) → Knight (3★) Knight (B)
Shieldman (1★) Shieldman → Sentinel (2★) → Imperial Wall (3★) Imperial Wall (A)
Spearman (1★) Spearman → Pikeman (2★) Pikeman (C)
Archer (1★) Archer → Longbowman (2★) → Flame Archer (3★) Flame Archer (S)
Scout Rider (2★) Scout Rider → Cavalryman (3★) → Lancer (4★) Lancer (S)

The Scout Rider to Lancer chain is the most valuable in the game, because it produces an S-tier unit without banner luck. The Archer line to Flame Archer is the second best, and it finishes a star cheaper. The evolution guide covers each branch in detail, including how ascension runs alongside it.

What changed in Update 2?

Update 2 went live on September 19, 2026 and added Rapier and Rapier Knight with a new Parry trait. It also raised Spearman and Pikeman squad sizes from 24 to 28 troops, which gives the spear line more battlefield control than it had at launch.

Rapier Knight is a fast melee unit built for flanking rather than holding a frontline. Community testing recorded 205 HP, 19 damage, 20% Parry, 6 range and fast speed, but those numbers come from one testing session rather than an official stat card. The Update 2 patch page has the full change list, and the codes page lists the four 300-Gem codes that shipped with it.

Update 3, the Mongol update of October 3, 2026, pushed the roster past this table. All Things How reports the first 5-star unit (Laestrygonian), a 4-star Myrmidon, three Battle Pass units, and two new evolution endpoints — Mace to Morningstar and Pikeman to Phalangite. Their star costs are not published, so they are not in the cost table above yet; the Update 3 overview carries the reported breakdown. Read the live unit panel before spending Gems on any of them.

Use the best units by role page to turn this roster into a squad decision, the unit tier list for the full ranking with counters, and the formation planning guide for how to arrange what you field. The beginner guide covers the official attack, defense, capture-point and upgrade loop from the start.
